Top 5 – Awesome Movies Coming Out in April
This April, unlike many before it, seems to be kicking off the summer movie season. With a lot of genre films, blockbusters, and sequels, we have a slate that is incredibly diverse and one that has a movie for everyone. Check out my picks for the most exciting movies coming out in April.
5 – SUPER TROOPERS 2 (Jay Chandrasekhar, April 20)
Super Troopers is one of the great cult hit of the 2000’s. A surprisingly successful hit, Super Troopers became a hit amongst stoners and the midnight movie crowd. Thanks for a great crowd funding campaign, the Vermont Highway Patrol is back for some more shenanigans, this time with the Mounties of Canada. I’ve already had the pleasure of seeing this movie and it is a rowdy, hilarious good time. I wouldn’t say it quite ranks up there with the first one, but if you’re a fan of the original, you’ll be very pleased with this one.
4 – RAMPAGE (Brad Peyton, April 13)
No movie year is complete without Dwayne Johnson. Rampage is the first of three movies starring Johnson this year, and this will certainly be his most insane film of the year, if not the most insane film of the year. Based on the video of the same title, Rampage looks like a chaotic action adventure featuring a giant, angry gorilla, a flying wolf, and a crocodile the size of yacht, with Johnson right in the middle of it. This looks like non-stop action fun and is a movie that requires being seen on the biggest, loudest screen possible.
3 – A QUIET PLACE (John Krasinski, April 6)
Jim from The Office making a horror movie? That’s right. John Krasinski, who’s career has transitioned from being a comedic T.V. actor to a diversified movie actor who is now making his directorial debut. Krasinski recruited his incredibly talented wife, Emily Blunt, for this movie, with a mysterious plot about a post apocalyptic world where an unspeakable terror lurks in the distance, forcing people to be silent. The film got raves coming out of South by Southwest this year and looks like a genuinely terrifying experience. This could be the most impressive debut of the year.
2 – BLOCKERS (Kay Cannon, April 6)
I’ve already seen Blockers, so I’m not going to say too much about it, as my review will be dropping later this week, but Blockers is great. I loved every moment of this movie and it is my favorite wide release movie of the year and currently ranks in the top five of the year overall. The cast is great, it’s incredibly sweet and relatable, and best of all, it is tear-inducing hilarious. I loved every moment of this film and you will too!
1 – AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (The Russo Brothers, April 27)
I mean, obviously. Avengers: Infinity War is my number two most anticipated movie of 2018 (and with rumors of The Irishman being pushed to 2019, it would be number one). Infinity War is a culmination of arguably the greatest cinematic universe of all-time. Iron Man, Captain American, Thor, and the entire Avengers squad, play some new faces, all come together to try and defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin) from collecting all the Infinity Stones and controlling the galaxy. This is going to be as big as movies get, with a nearly three hour run time, over a dozen characters, and being a galaxy jumping heist flick. The action is going to be riveting and some of our heroes are going to die, which will add a level or emotion that the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is the cinematic event of 2018.
